Q - How old do I have to be to start driving lessons?

A – You can start on the day of your 17th birthday. If you receive higher level disability allowance you can start learning at the age of 16.

Q - When can I start my driving lessons?

A – We endeavor to get you started when it is convenient for you, usually within a couple of days. Get in touch!

Q - Do I have to have passed my theory test before I start my driving lessons?

A – No, you can start driving lessons before you sit and pass your theory test. In fact you may find that driving first helps understand some of the questions.

Q - How much do you charge per hour?

A – We charge £24 per hour.

Q - How long are your driving lessons?

A – We offer lessons for 1 hour, 90 minutes and also 2 hours. We strongly recommend 2 hour lessons as this gives you the maximum amount of ‘at the wheel’ time.

Q - Do you provide driving lessons during the evenings and weekends?

A – Yes we generally begin teaching from early in the morning til late in the evening, seven days a week.

Q - How many driving lessons will I need?

A – The national average (according to the DVSA) is 45 hours (on average) combined with 22 hours of private practice. Most of our students generally pass with well below this amount.

Q - What do I need to start to learn to drive?

A – You will need a provisional driving license and once you have received it you can begin.

Q - Do you offer intensive courses?

A – Yes it can be structured as you wish. Please contact us with your plan so we can discuss the best option for you.

Q - Where will I be driving when having my driving lessons in Bedford?

A – When you begin your driving lessons they will generally begin in a quiet area of Bedford such as putnoe or brickhill depending on where you live. This is where you can develop your driving skills in a relaxed environment without the pressure of lots of other road users. This is where you will learn about the car controls and practice basic junctions.

As your driving skills improve you will be taught a variety of different subjects such as crossroads, roundabouts and dual carriageways on the A421. By the end of driver training you will be familiar with most areas of Bedford.

Q - Will I cover the driving test routes in Bedford?

A – Your driving instructor in Bedford will cover all of the practical driving test routes in Bedford with you. However it is important to be able to drive anywhere and everywhere safely. Your driving instructor is from the local area and has expert knowledge of the driving test routes and will cover these areas with you as you progress through your learning.

Q - Will you provide a car for the practical driving test?

A – Yes, you will drive the same car that you learn in for the test.

Q - Can I have driving lessons on a motorway?

A – Yes, but only when your driving instructor feels you are at the correct standard. This can now be done before passing your driving test, but only in a dual controlled car with a driving instructor and not a family member or friend.

Q - What is pass plus?

A – Pass plus is a training scheme for new drivers. Its aim is to improve your driving skills and make you a safer driver. It can also lead to insurance discounts. Find out more >

Q - When should I begin to practice with family members or friends?

A – We generally recommend you do not begin to practice with family or friends in the early stages. Once you’re a partly trained pupil and your instructor confirms that you are now up to a suitable standard then you should begin.

Q - Will I have the same driving instructor each lesson?

A – Yes. Unlike some driving schools we will not change your driving instructor.

Q - Can I have more than one driving lesson a week?

A – Yes you can. It’s entirely up to you as to how many sessions you have in a week.
